Mermaids (or merpeople) are crazy half-people, half-fish things that live under the ocean. Mythology has called these things good, helping sailers and so forth, but also evil, such as killing sailers and singing to lure ships to their doom. The legend first took place in Assyria, though it quickley spread out everywhere else. They became popular for young girls and fairy tales. The famous Danish story teller Hans Christian Anderson wrote The Little Mermaid based on these guys. In greek mythology, they are thought to be the sea god Posidon's servants. They are just so lucky, swimming around naked and serving a big, crazy maniac all their miserable lives.
